And yet, the other most famous “made in Bienne” brand somewhat also has its own museum here: the Nouveau Musée de Bienne hosts, to my knowledge, the most significant publicly available collection of Rolex watches.
Rolex Collection at NMB. Bienne’s main history museum, the Nouveau Musée de Bienne, is not limited to watches, but it has a neat, permanent section dedicated to the city’s horological past. There is a dedicated Rolex section, with about 50 watches, and as many separate movements. The photo above and the two photos below were taken at low altitude from an airplane or hot air balloon in the mid 1920s in Bienne, Switzerland and show the original /Rolex movement factory, which was part of the Aegler S.A. company.
But then, it’s unique to have a look inside Rolex, see yourself! With the official inauguration, on 16 October 2012, of its new production building in Bienne dedicated to the movement, Rolex has completed the vertical integration process it began over 10 years ago.
