After Jones left IWC, in 1876 another American, Frederick Seeland, became CEO and on the one hand produced a less expensive movement with full plates, which mostly was sold in the British empire. These watches, known today as Seelands, used movements designated as Calibers 18 through 26. Jones movements have been designated as Calibres 1 through 17. The so-called Jones movements were all three-quarter plate designs, with a characteristic feature being the elongated index pointer, which sometimes is called the “Jones arrow”. Calibre Jones watches were the first watches made by the International Watch Company (IWC) and are now around 150 years old, Figure 1.
